Bishops in the Church of England are ordained to be shepherds of Christ’s flock and guardians of the faith of the apostles. A Diocesan Bishop is the ‘chief pastor’ of everyone in his diocese, lay people as well as clergy. He is required to proclaim the Gospel, teach and uphold ‘sound doctrine’ and to be an example of ‘righteous and godly living’. He is also ‘principal minister’ within his diocese.

The Bishop of Durham is the Rt Revd Paul Butler. Bishop Paul is also our Growing Faith Champion.

Sharon Pritchard is our Children’s Ministry Adviser for the Diocese of Durham. She is here to offer training, resources, support and encouragement for all involved in Children’s Ministry in parishes across the diocese. Sharon supports current work with churches in their ministry with children from birth to 11 years old and advice on how to begin new work. sharon.pritchard@durham.anglican.org

Andy Harris is our Leader of Youth Mission and Ministry in Durham Diocese, with the brief of supporting and encouraging churches to engage with youth (school years 7-13), at parish, deanery and diocesan level. andy.harris@durham.anglican.org

Catherine Simpson is our Growing Faith project lead and part-time lay school Chaplain in Bishop Auckland. catherine.simpson@durham.anglican.org
